2020 EKOLU 55 & OVER

This is a mixed league for men and women 55 years of age or older by end of league year.  League season is October - December.  League matches are on Sundays*There is no sectional championship for this league.

The NTRP levels of play are combined 6.5, 7.5, and 8.5.  The NTRP difference between doubles partners may not exceed 1.0, and the combined NTRP level of the doubles partners may not exceed the level at which the team is competing (i.e., 7.5 doubles partners could be a combination of a 4.0 player with a 3.5 partner, or two 3.5 players).  The minimum NTRP level for 6.5 is 2.5; 7.5 is 3.0 and 8.5 is 3.5.  

Year-end ratings published after the league has started will not affect a player’s ability to continue to play on that team. For example: A player who registered on a team as a 4.0 but received a year-end rating of 4.5 may continue to play as a 4.0.

A team match consists of: (1) men's doubles; (1) women's doubles and (1) mixed doubles matches. Match scoring format: Pro-set (first to 8 by a margin of 2), regular scoring, with a tiebreak (first to 10 by a margin of 2) at 8-all. The switching of sides for service during the tiebreak shall follow the Coman Tiebreak Procedure.

  • Pro-set (first to 8 by a margin of 2) TennisLink winning scores: 9-7; 8-6; 8-5; 8-4; 8-3; 8-2; 8-1; and 8-0.
  • The tiebreak (first to 10 by a margin of 2) at 8-all is the same as the match tiebreak played in all ODTA leagues. TennisLink winning score is 9-8.
  • Regular scoring at 40-40 (deuce) is the same as in all ODTA leagues: Doubles team must win 2 points in a row to win the game.
  • Changing ends during the set is the same as in all ODTA leagues: Players change ends after the 1st, 3rd and every subsequent odd game.

The minimum number of players on a team is 3 men and 3 women, maximum 16 players.  Move Up/Split Up does not apply to this league.  The League fee is $23 per player.

Major Regulation Change

  1. A player without a valid NTRP rating level in TennisLink, a returning player with an expired NTRP rating level, a Tournament Exclusive (T) rated player or a Mixed Exclusive (M) rated player who does not have a valid computer (C) rating from a previous year and chooses to participate in the Adult Division, must self-rate to be assigned a new rating, reassigned to their last expired rating or a higher rating based on their playing history to enter the USTA League Program.  USTA League Regulations 1.04F; ODTA 6
  2. Head-to-head tie-break procedures clarified.  Winner of head-to-head match between the tied teams only if all tied teams have played each other and one team defeated all the teams that are tied. USTA League Regulations 2.03H; ODTA 16. 

Reminders to Captains & Players

  1. All captains and players must act in accordance with ODTA Tennis Court Rules. (ODTA Addendum III)

  2. Withholding pertinent information when self-rating is an egregious act and a violation of National Regulation 1.04E(4) (Player Agreement) and can lead to consequences. Sanctions may include suspension from USTA League Tennis for the captain, player and team. Captains do not self-rate players. Players should do their own self-rating according to the General & Experienced Player Guidelines.

  3. No coaching allowed at any time during a match.  Cell phones and other electronic communication devices may not be used at any time during a match (including warm-up, change-overs, set breaks, and bathroom breaks). (ODTA 21)

  4. For each team match, a majority of the individual matches (positions) must actually be played to constitute a valid team match. The maximum number of positions that can be defaulted in a team match and the number of positions that must actually be played without defaulting the entire team match are shown in Defaults and Retirements. (ODTA 22; HPS 2.01C(2))

  5. Warning: Captains and players can be sanctioned for falsifying USTA League match scores and/or reporting matches in TennisLink that were not actually played.  Individuals found in violation can receive sanctions that include being denied the opportunity to advance to championships, suspension from USTA League play and captains being prohibited from captaining teams.  This is a recreational league and unethical and unsportsmanlike behavior of any individuals associated with USTA League Tennis will not be tolerated. HPS Player Guide; (ODTA 26)


League Timeline 

  • Team Registration:  August 18 - September 18 at 6pm.

  • Player Registration on TennisLinkAugust 18 - October 17 at 6pm.
    Requests for deadline extension should be emailed to the Coordinator before the deadline .  Notify the Coordinator of any player whose self-rating or medical appeal decision is pending.
  • Minimum Roster Deadline:  September 22 - (3) men and (3) women.
    No transfers of players between teams after this date.  Requests for deadline extension should be emailed to the Coordinator before the deadline.
  • Reserve A Court Deadline: September 22.  Court Usage fee $50
