» USTA League Tennis

2020 ADULT 65 & OVER

League season is September - November (Sundays*) for players 65 years of age or older by end of league year.

The NTRP levels of play are combined 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 for separate men's and women's leagues.  The NTRP difference between doubles partners may not exceed 1.0, and the combined NTRP level of the doubles partners may not exceed the level at which the team is competing (i.e., 7.0 doubles partners could be a combination of two 3.5 players, or a 4.0 player with a 3.0 partner, or a 3.0 player with a 3.5 partner).

A team match consists of (3) doubles matches.  The match format is: Best of two sets, regular scoring, set tiebreak (first to 7 by a margin of 2) at 6-all, with a match tiebreak (first to 10 by a margin of 2) in lieu of a third set. The switching of sides for service during any tiebreak shall follow the Coman Tiebreak Procedure.

There will be no flight or district playoffs, and section championships. The 2020 wildcard district (Maui) will send teams to the 65 & Over Invitational. Oahu winning teams may be asked to participate if Maui is unable to provide teams at the 6.0M, 6.0W, 8.0M, 9.0W and 9.0M playing levels.  Oahu winning teams will be determined by "Games Won%" when there are two or more flights in a playing level.

A player is eligible to advance to the USTA League 65 & Over Invitational if that player has played on that same team in at least two (2) matches with one default that may count for advancing.  A retired match shall count for all players involved.

Teams will need to follow USTA Playing Tennis Safely guidelines, and the most recent Honolulu City & County requirements for masks and social distancing.  Players must sign a waiver of claims before participating in this league.

The minimum number of players on a team is 6, maximum 16 players.  The League fee is $13 per player.  Players are to provide their own can of balls for each match. Penn Championship Extra Duty felt balls should be used.

Note: Some players were issued credits to their TennisLink account due to the cancellation of the 2020 Adult 18, 55 and 70 leagues. In order to redeem those credits, a player must be logged into their own TennisLink account and not have someone else register for them.

Click on the link below to see if you have any credits and how to track your balance. Should you have any questions about your credit balance, contact the coordinator before registering for a team. http://activesupport.force.com/usta/articles/en_US/Article/Player-Credits

Some Saturday matches may be required.

Major Regulation Change

  2. Head-to-head tie-break procedures clarified.  Winner of head-to-head match between the tied teams only if all tied teams have played each other and one team defeated all the teams that are tied. HPS/USTA League Regulations 2.03H; ODTA 16.

Reminders to Captains & Players

  1. All captains and players must act in accordance with ODTA Tennis Court Rules. (ODTA Addendum III)

  2. Withholding pertinent information when self-rating is an egregious act and a violation of National Regulation 1.04E(4) (Player Agreement) and can lead to consequences. Sanctions may include suspension from USTA League Tennis for the captain, player and team. Captains do not self-rate players. Players should do their own self-rating according to the General & Experienced Player Guidelines.

  3. No coaching allowed at any time during a match.  Cell phones and other electronic communication devices may not be used at any time during a match (including warm-up, change-overs, set breaks, and bathroom breaks). (ODTA 21)

  4. For each team match, a majority of the individual matches (positions) must actually be played to constitute a valid team match. The maximum number of positions that can be defaulted in a team match and the number of positions that must actually be played without defaulting the entire team match are shown in Defaults and Retirements. (ODTA 22; HPS 2.01C(2))

  5. Warning: Captains and players can be sanctioned for falsifying USTA League match scores and/or reporting matches in TennisLink that were not actually played.  Individuals found in violation can receive sanctions that include being denied the opportunity to advance to championships, suspension from USTA League play and captains being prohibited from captaining teams.  This is a recreational league and unethical and unsportsmanlike behavior of any individuals associated with USTA League Tennis will not be tolerated. HPS Player Guide; (ODTA 26)
