2017 MIXED 40 & OVER

This is a mixed doubles league for men and women 40 years of age or older by end of league year.  League season is June - August (Sundays) The NTRP levels of play are combined 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 and 10.0.  The NTRP difference between doubles partners may not exceed 1.0, and the combined NTRP level of the doubles partners may not exceed the level at which the team is competing (i.e., 7.0 doubles partners could be a combination of two 3.5 players, or a 4.0 player with a 3.0 partner, or a 3.0 player with a 3.5 partner).

The Move Up/Split Up rule applies to any team and players that qualified for, or advanced to any 2016 Mixed National Championships. Refer to ODTA League Rules & Regulations 29.

A team match consists of (3) mixed doubles matches. The match format is: Best of two sets, regular scoring, set tiebreak (first to 7 by a margin of 2) at 6-all, with a match tiebreak (first to 10 by a margin of 2) in lieu of a third set. The switching of sides for service during any tiebreak shall follow the Coman Tiebreak Procedure.

The minimum number of players on a team is 3 men and 3 women, maximum 16 playersThe League fee is $28 per player.

Major Regulation Changes

  1. One (1) default to count towards eligibility for 2017 National Championships. (Players must still play at least 3 matches on the same team to qualify, but one match can be a default received.) USTA Reg 2.03A4; ODTA League Rules & Regulations 27

  2. Move Up/Split Up requirements only apply to players who participated in three (3) or more matches (including one default) for that team during the championship year. USTA 2.06A(3) Updated 12/15/16; ODTA Rules & Regulations 29

  3. 2017 year-end ratings for players 65 & older who are moved up will be published; automatic appeal will be granted upon request (through TennisLink auto-appeal function). NTRP Disqualification procedures will apply. USTA Reg 2.05E(2); ODTA League Rules & Regulations 6

  4. Only National Championship players will not be allowed to appeal their rating down for one year after participating in a 2017 National Championship. All other Championship players (who were on the team roster but did not play at the 2017 National Championship) will be allowed to appeal their ratings up or down. The appeal will be granted if they meet the appeal criteria. Note: The Move Up/Split Up rule still applies.  USTA Reg 2.07

  5. ODTA Rule Change: The LLC shall reschedule the date, time and location of a team match involving a team with 4 or more players who will not be available because of Section or National championship competition. The captain must contact the LLC to request the reschedule at least two weeks before the originally scheduled match date.  The LLC will notify the captains of the date, time and location of the rescheduled matchODTA League Rules & Regulations 23

Reminders to Captains & Players

  1. Withholding pertinent information when self-rating is an egregious act and a violation of National Regulation 1.04E(4) (Player Agreement) and can lead to consequences. Sanctions may include suspension from USTA League Tennis for the captain, player and team. Captains do not self-rate players. Players should do their own self-rating according to the General & Experienced Player Guidelines.

  2. No coaching allowed at any time during a match.  Cell phones and other electronic communication devices may not be used at any time during a match (including warm-up, change-overs and set breaks). ODTA League Rules & Regulations 21

  3. For each team match, a majority of the individual matches (positions) must actually be played to constitute a valid team match. The maximum number of positions that can be defaulted in a team match and the number of positions that must actually be played without defaulting the entire team match are shown in Defaults and RetirementsODTA League Rules & Regulations 22; HPS 2.01C(2)

  4. Warning: Captains and players can be sanctioned for falsifying USTA League match scores and/or reporting matches in TennisLink that were not actually played.  Individuals found in violation can receive sanctions that include being denied the opportunity to advance to championships, suspension from USTA League play and captains being prohibited from captaining teams.  This is a recreational league and unethical and unsportsmanlike behavior of any individuals associated with USTA League Tennis will not be tolerated. HPS Player Guide; ODTA Rules & Regulations 26


League Timeline 

  • Team Registration:  April 11 - May 11 at 6pm HST
    On-Line Team Creation allows captains to register and obtain a team number from TennisLink.  To find out how to obtain your team number, click here to print the TennisLink instructions.  Non-playing captains and captains who choose not to use On-Line Team Creation can complete the Team Number Request form and email to the Coordinator.  Click here to complete the form. Note: Use Internet Explorer or Google Chrome (the form is not compatible with MS Edge).
  • Player Registration on TennisLink:  April 11 - June 10 at 6pm HST
    Requests for deadline extension should be emailed to the Coordinator before June 10. Notify the Coordinator of any player whose self-rating or medical appeal decision is pending.
  • Minimum Roster Deadline:  May 15 - 3 men and 3 women.
    No transfers of players between teams after this date.  Requests for deadline extension should be emailed to the Coordinator before May 15.
  • Reserve A Court Deadline: May 15.  Court Usage fee $50
