2014 Ekolu League

This is a mixed doubles league for men and women 18 years of age or older by year-end.  League season is September - November (Saturdays*).  The NTRP levels of play are combined 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 and 10.0.  The NTRP difference between doubles partners may not exceed 1.0, and the combined NTRP level of the doubles partners may not exceed the level at which the team is competing (i.e., 7.0 doubles partners could be a combination of two 3.5 players, or a 4.0 player with a 3.0 partner, or a 3.0 player with a 3.5 partner).

A team match consists of: (1) men's doubles; (1) women's doubles and (1) mixed doubles matches. The match format is: Best of two sets, regular scoring, set tiebreak (first to 7 by a margin of 2) at 6-all, with a match tiebreak (first to 10 by a margin of 2) in lieu of a third set. The switching of sides for service during any tiebreak shall follow the Coman Tiebreak Procedure.

Flight playoffs will be single elimination when there are two or more flights in a playing level. Winners of the flight playoffs will advance to section championships.  Refer to ODTA League Rules & Regulations 26.

The minimum number of players on a team is 3 men and 3 women, maximum 16 players.  The League fee is $26 per player.

* Some Sunday matches may be required.


Important Ekolu League Rule Changes for 2014

  • Players Who Self-Rate for Ekolu must self-rate in accordance with the USTA General & Experienced Player Guidelines.
  • Procedures in the Event of a Tie:  Head-to-Head is now the second procedure to be used to break a tie in Team Standings.  Refer to League Regulations - USTA 2.03H & ODTA 16

a) Individual matches. Winner of the most individual matches in the flight/subflight.

b) Head-to-head. Winner of head-to-head match.

c) Sets. Loser of the fewest number of sets in the flight/subflight.

d) Games. Loser of the fewest number of games in the flight/subflight.

e) Coin toss.

  • Team Match:  For each team match, a majority of the individual matches must actually be played to constitute a valid team match, otherwise a double-default will be declared. Both teams involved will incur the same penalties that would result for a default of an entire team match and will be ineligible for championship play. Captains and players may be subject to suspension from playing in USTA League for a period determined by the Section. Refer to League Regulations - USTA Reg. 2.01C(2) & 2.03; ODTA 16 & 22

  • Team Registration:  July 1 - August 1 at 6pm.

  • Player Registration on TennisLink:  July 1 - September 5 at 6pm.
    Requests for deadline extension should be emailed to the Coordinator before September 5.  Notify the Coordinator of any player whose self-rating or medical appeal decision is pending.
  • Minimum Roster Deadline:  August 5 - (3) men and (3) women.
    No transfers of players between teams after this date.  Requests for deadline extension should be emailed to the Coordinator before August 5.
  • Reserve A Court Deadline:  August 5 August 4.

  • Refund Deadline:  September 5.
    Email refund requests to the Coordinator.  The $3 TennisLink fee is non-refundable.
